I wanted to share with you a little discovery. We hear over and over again how bad face wipes are and I discovered this for myself last year. After using a certain brand to remove a normal day’s worth of make-up, I became incredibly itchy along my jaw line. Thinking it might have been leftover residue from the wipe, I took a piece of tissue along my jaw and low and behold, it was orange. The wipe had failed to remove the foundation sufficiently and it had been sinking into my pores and mixing with the chemicals on the wipe, thus the itch. I was shocked. From that day on, I vowed to stay away from the SIMPLE way of removing make-up and try a more comprehensive method.
Having tried several different brands and methods, the one that is the most effective and straightforward for me is Nivea, and I use their cleansing lotion and their micellar water to remove my day to day make-up. But, for heavier days, or days when my skin is feeling particularly grubby, I like to use a cleansing lotion. These gently remove grime and make-up and leave your skin feeling fresh and clean. Given how delicate our skin is, mine in particular (thank you sensitivity), it seems dangerous to be putting chemical after chemical on your face without really knowing what it is they’re doing both in the short and long term. So, I went on a search and discovered Naturally Smart Skincare.
This is a UK based business whose ethos is to provide hand-made products which are made with 100% natural ingredients. More natural than Lush. It’s so natural that it comes with an expiration date. This cleanser is lovely. It’s one of those rare products that actually does what it says on the tin.
A quick ingredients list in case you don’t believe me:
Water, Sweet Almond, Sunflower and Castor Oils, Emulsifier, Soya Wax, Sorbitol, Vitamin E, Plant Based Detergent, Juniper Essential Oil, Preservative.
That’s it. Nothing else.
It takes off your make up whilst the muslin cloth provided exfoliates your skin. Splash with cold water. Done. For people with busy lives, like myself, who don’t have the luxury or energy to do an hour’s cleanse, acid peel, exfoliate, serum, whatever else, every night, this product is worth trying. Starting at £6.00 for a 50ml pump and a set postage no matter how much you buy, it sets the bar for its higher priced high street competitors. My only tiny little niggle is that with waterproof mascara or eyeliner, you do have to rub a bit harder under the eyes to avoid looking like the Panda who had a bath.
The other thing the germophobe in me likes, is the fact that the muslin cloth comes sealed in its own little plastic pouch. So you can be sure that a.) it’s clean and b.) nobody has touched it with grubby little fingers. Again, these are 100% natural cloths that Judith (the lovely owner) has taken the trouble to source.
And the products don’t stop at cleansers. They stock moisturisers, tanning products, face creams, cuticle creams…
So if you’re looking for an alternative to the high street cleansers but don’t want to break the bank, I’d strongly recommend giving this website a look through.
