A Note of Gratitude

Firstly, thank you to the French guy who immediately went to get help when I asked him to, and for not panicking when I came out the bathroom half dressed bent double and sobbing. Your calmness was appreciated.

I want to say thank you the 4 other dorm members who tolerated my bathroom trips throughout the night, door banging because that is the only way to close it.

Thank you to them also for routinely checking on me, asking me how I was, offering to get me things no matter what time of night.

Thank you to the hostel owner, Ali, who drove from his house in the middle of the night to take me to the emergency clinic, stayed with me during the process, drove me back then walked me back to bed. Thank you for checking on me the next day.

Thank you to the hostel staff for your understanding and for changing my sheets and towels.

Thank you to my new dorm mates who didn’t push my unwillingness to do activities, and for understanding when I didn’t order food or when I slept all day.

Thank you to the three strangers, now friends, who didn’t know me, for asking everyday how I was.

Thank you to the doctor at the clinic for your good English, your gentleness and thorough examination.

Thank you to his nurses for the same, plus for cleaning up any sick I left around the toilet…you were all kind and patient.

I want to say thank you to my friends back home who have supported me.

I want to say a big thank you to my family who wished me well and sent love. It was appreciated.

And finally, a big thank you to my dad who lovingly supported, helped, and checked-in frequently. Listening to my sobs down the phone, reassuring, ringing my travel insurance company because it wont dial from Indonesia, and all in all just being a good egg.

Thank you.
